StoneClan Camp

One of the more unique and obscure areas of the valley, the StoneClan camp is found within a cave system harbored by the rocky outcrop overlooking the stream. The camp can only be accessed by walking along ledges that line the cliff face towards the cave entrance. Long ago, when the stream was a great deep river, the water carved out these paths on the stone, which also led to the cave entrance being opened. Although the water has receded, its legacy remains. The cave itself slopes down, and continues to decline in altitude as cats go deeper inside. There are a plethora of stalactites and stalagmites throughout the system and a few fully connected columns here and there. No matter what time of year, the cave is always very cool, keeping its residents comfortable. Because the Clan resides here year round there are no other creatures that make the cave their home other than small cave fish that swim about in Eternity’s Pool.

  1. Outside Ledge: The path along the cliff face that leads to the camp entrance. It is fairly wide and cats that are used to walking along it have no trouble using it. However, to an individual accustomed to life on the ground, the height can be unsettling.

  2. Apprentice’s Den: A round dip into the cave wall where apprentice’s sleep. The entrance is wide open, leaving little room for privacy.

  3. Warrior’s Den: A den almost the same as the apprentice’s den, only larger. Because of the limited space in the cave, the Clan leader also sleeps here. The openness of the dens makes StoneClan cats feel as though they are closer to their clanmates than any other group.

  4. Elder’s Den: The only den in the cave that is separate from the main cavern. The entrance is a crawlspace that an average cat can travel through without stooping down. At the end the tunnel opens up to a large ovular room with a high ceiling. The elders were given this room for privacy and respect. The fact that the echoes from the cave can barely be heard in the room was also a factor in determining who lived there. Sometimes cats who grow tired of constant socialization will visit the elders for a bit of peace and quiet.

  5. Medicine Den: The largest of the cave dens. The entire den can be seen from the outside, the only thing inhibiting a cat’s sight being the pillar on one side. Smooth stones have been stacked on the floor in the back to keep herbs from touching the wet floor and molding. These stones are sometimes laid across broken stalagmites to form tables.

  6. Nursery: Another dip in the walls, just like the apprentice and warrior dens. A few columns are located inside, and kits often use them as props in their hide and seek games.

  7. Eternity’s Pool: A large underground pool that has a steady source of pure, clear water running into it from somewhere deeper in the caves. There are three large columns in the pool, as well as one large island. Although the pool appears to be very shallow, it is incredibly deep and incredibly dangerous. It is rumored that this was found out long ago when a cat dove down to retrieve something and drowned. More daring apprentices will steal along the edges of the pool to look for the bones of their ancestors at rest on the bottom. The pool is home to a few species of cave fish.

  8. Deepest Maw: An opening behind Eternity’s Pool that leads deeper into the caves. It was named after the two stalactites resembling fangs on each side of the opening. While the sun helps to keep the cave at least a little bright, the path beyond the opening is pitch black. It is forbidden for any cat to enter Deepest Maw, and anyone caught trying to explore it will receive severe punishment. It is said that Stonestar herself entered the maw and never returned.
